Grace Ling

Worn by it-girls like Julia Fox and model of the moment — Alex ConsaniSingapore-born and New York-based designer Grace Ling crafts sleek, sexy pieces that demand attention. Ling’s work is the epitome of bold, avant-garde fashion, fusing futuristic aesthetics with organic forms and a surreal, almost ethereal vibe. Her designs are a masterclass in contrast — sharp, metallic structures intertwined with soft, flowing fabrics, creating sculptural garments that feel both elegant and haunting. With a focus on asymmetry and a minimalist, monochromatic palette, Ling’s creations blur the lines between fashion and art. These signature silver and gold plates not only accentuate the female form but transform each dress into a powerful statement, perfect for making an unforgettable entrance anywhere.

Allina Liu

They say it takes ten years to become an overnight success and this rings true for Allina Liu. After graduating from the Maryland Institute College of Art in 2013, she boldly launched her brand without any formal fashion training. Despite the hurdles of breaking into the New York scene and facing the pandemic, Liu now owns a boutique shop in Brooklyn.

At first glance, her designs radiate a sexy cottage-core vibe with hints of something darker. However, when you dive deeper, you’ll see Liu’s fascination with horror and provocative sexual themes. Her recent Fall/Winter 2024 collection draws inspiration from Japanese photographer Nobuyoshi Araki, the Greek Fates (Morai), and Jordan Peele’s Us.

Her pieces blend delicate bows and flowing layers with eerie, horror-infused elements, creating a striking contrast between softness and unsettling beauty.

PH5

Let’s start with the name. Founded by Wei Lin, the daughter of a knitwear manufacturer, the brand’s name was carefully chosen to reflect its edgy, feminine essence. If you imagine the pH scale, which ranges from 0 to 14, as a metaphor for gender expression in fashion — where 0 is ultra-feminine and 14 is hypermasculine — Lin sought to position her brand just below the androgynous middle. PH5 represents a brand that leans into femininity, but with a contemporary twist.

Primarily known for its knitwear, PH5 designs garments that contour the body with a sleek, sculptural effect. The knit pieces have an almost graffiti-like spray effect, blending boldness with softness. Many of the dresses feature asymmetrical cuts and swirly fringed finishes, adding a playful yet sophisticated touch to the collection. Each piece exudes a balance of elegance and modern edge, embodying the brand’s unique vision.

Gabe Gordon

Drawing on the romanticization of teenage angst and drama, Gabe Gordon infuses his handmade, hand-loomed knitwear with a deep sense of nostalgia. His designs harken back to an era when he first fell in love with Lana Del Rey, channeling the melancholic beauty of her music into his work. The fabrics he creates evoke a feeling of delicate decay, resembling garments that are somewhat moth-eaten, distressed and worn — each piece a testament to the passage of time and the stories they carry.

Despite the underlying themes of grief and acceptance that weave through his work, Gordon approaches his creative process with a sense of optimism. His pieces balance a feminine yet demure aesthetic, featuring details like cute buttons and corset-style accents. The color palette is soft and subdued, dominated by muted pastel tones that enhance the shy, understated vibe of his designs. Each garment feels like a cherished relic, blending the bittersweet with the beautiful.

Caroline Zimbalist

You might recognize one of Caroline Zimbalist’s stunning hand-painted dresses on the musician of the moment, Midwestern America’s very own princess, Chappell Roan, styled to perfection by the renowned Genesis Webb.

Zimbalist’s work showcases her deep-rooted expertise in fashion, art, and design. Her bespoke pieces go beyond mere clothing — they are living, breathing works of art that blur the lines between painting, illustration and sculpture. After earning her Bachelors in fashion at Parsons School of Design, she honed her avant-garde skills at Central Saint Martins, where her creativity truly flourished.

In response to today’s world, especially within the ever-evolving fashion industry, Zimbalist has ventured into the innovative realm of bio-plastics. Over the past several years, she has crafted clothing, jewelry and sculptures from these materials, resulting in designs with a unique, almost wet sheen that evokes the organic beauty of flowers and plants. Her work continually pushes the boundaries of abstract fashion, merging nature and art in ways that are both captivating and unconventional.
